- Re-pointing
- Flaunching renewed
- Pots re-bedded and sealed
- Cowls and caps fitted
- Felt trays round the stack
- Leaks round the stack traced
Most chimney leaks start at the flashing
Most chimney leaks start where the stack meets the roof. Lead flashing is dressed into the brickwork and over the tiles; when it lifts or the mortar holding it cracks, water runs down the stack and into the house. Where the felt at the roof edges has gone too, felt trays can be fitted while we’re up there.
The top of the stack: flaunching, pots and cowls
At the top, a sloped mortar cap called flaunching holds the pots and throws water off. When it cracks, rain gets into the stack. We renew the flaunching, re-bed or seal pots, and fit cowls and caps. Our reviews include a chimney cowl replaced in Atherstone.

Chimneys and the rest of the roof
A leak near a chimney isn’t always the chimney: valleys, tiles and flat roofs nearby can be the cause. That’s why we check the roof round it. See roof leak repair and roof repairs.
Questions
Chimney repair questions
How much do chimney repairs cost?
It depends on what’s needed and how the stack is reached (often scaffold or a tower). You get the price before any work. The quote is free.
Why is my chimney breast damp?
Often lifted flashing, cracked flaunching or open pointing on the stack. Sometimes it’s condensation in an unused flue. We check it from the roof.
Can you take a chimney down?
Ask us about your stack. Removing a chimney can affect the structure and may need building control, so it’s checked before anything is agreed.
Do you fit chimney cowls?
Yes, our reviews include chimney cowls replaced.
